I am pleased that you have taken the time to find out more about me.
I was born in 1976 at Fort Lewis Army Base in Washington State to military parents. Soon after that, my family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where many of my relatives still live.
I have lived in Orange, Texas, since I was five years old. I attended West Orange Stark High School and graduated in 1994. I am currently in college with the ultimate goal of earning a Doctorate in History and a degree in Space Sciences.
I am an educator at Little Cypress-Mauriceville, where I work with students that have discipline issues. I also sponsor the Chess Team and the Robotics Team
When I was younger, I wanted a career in the United States Navy; however I was diagnosed in 1990 with Type One Diabetes that made a service career impossible. I have also worked in the retail and restaurant industry, but love education since it allows me to talk about my passions, history and space.
Politically I have been active since a young age, having run for School Board Trustee in 1994 while still a senior in High School and as a candidate for the United States Congress in 2012.
Five years ago, I began to fight a foot infection that eventually led to me losing my right foot below the knee. I do not let this stop me; the prosthetic has reminded me how precious everyday of my life truly is. I hope to improve my bicycle riding and enter into a marathon. I will not allow this to slow me down. This has also taught me how our health care system needs work. Without insurance, there was no way that I could have afforded these treatments; without insurance, i would have lost my life and not just my foot.
I met the love of my life, Franchesca Cole, over ten years ago. She was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico in 1981; she works at Lamar State College-Orange and has a Bachelors in Business. We have been married since August 2003. I currently have two dogs, Jada and Max. Jada is a 7 year old Lab Mix, she is my Drama Queen. Max, my 14 year old Yorkie is the "Walter" of the dog world.
