The 2nd Amendment

The Founding Fathers had great reason to protect the rights of individual gun ownership.  It was not enacted to preserve hunting, but for self-defense.  We can never be sure of what the future holds, but one thing is for certain: we must be ready to face those challenges.  Where I live, at best it could be as long as ten minutes before a County Sheriff's Deputy would be on their way to my home in an emergency.  Those few minutes could make the difference between life and death for myself and my wife.  I vehemently oppose the removal of our Constitutional rights and will vote against legislation that does.

The Economy

The American Economy in the last hundred years has won two World Wars, put men on the moon, created innovation and luxury that the world has never before seen.  We have all prospered in this wonderful country of ours.  Now, greed by a few has threatened the prosperity of the many.  Unfortunately, instead of tackling the problems of a nation with near double digit unemployment, politicians have bickered and fought, refused to do anything and then blamed the other side.  The highest level of prosperity is achieved when the maximum amount of people have the ability to obtain wealth

We must make all efforts to restore the economic miracle that is the American Industry.  We must create the atmosphere where innovation and hard work are rewarded.  We must invest in our infrastructure and we must ensure that prosperity for another generation.

The future of business requires a strong infrastructure.  We must bring money to expand the Ports of Houston and Orange.  Not only will this create jobs for this industry, but with greater access to new markets, exports to other nations, we can create a market for new jobs here at home.

Federal Government

Government can only exist by the consent of the governed.  We do not need a large government for it to do its job effectively.

We need a smart, effective government.

We need to live within our means and balance the budget.  To do so, we need to make sure that our tax dollars are being spent wisely.

Education and the Future

Education is the cornerstone of a free people.  A people steeped in the scientific method and the Bill of Rights are the critical thinkers of tomorrow.  By learning math, science and American history, they learn the skills necessary to do great things, to cherish the nation and the freedoms they have and to build a better tomorrow.  Science and math are very important because the technologies that we build today and in the future require them.  American history is as well, because if our younger Americans do not understand the world they live in, that the nation that is great because of their parents, and that the rights that they enjoy come with responsibility and sacrifice, the future is lost.

Innovation is only possible to those that can think freely and critically; critical thinking is only possible through freedom.  The Founding Fathers felt that an educated nation was a nation that would preserve their freedoms.  They were right.

Decades ago, it was not impossible for a son to go to high school, even drop out, and still enter the trade of his father.  He could count on the on-the-job training as the jobs of industry did not require the high tech education that the jobs today require.

We can’t hang on the jobs of the past.  None of us can.

The entire sum of all human knowledge doubles every five years.

A child that is born today could live to see the twenty-second century.  If we nourish innovation, if we tear down red tape and regulations, that child could lead a brand new industry, could cure a dreaded disease, or could touch a far horizon that we cannot even glimpse yet.

So if it’s personal for you, if you want your child to grow up in a world fueled by new prosperity and discovery…then I need your vote.
