The 36th District has the potential of being the magnet on the map for industry expansion. By investing in our infrastructure; such as our ports, roads, rail and upgraded internet access to our communities, we can spur a Job Creation Boom that has not been seen in our area since Spindletop over a century ago.
The Port of Orange will benefit from the increased shipping overflow provided by the Panama Canal expansion resulting in thousands of new jobs. Houston area ports cannot handle the new influx, and we will have the opportunity for those overflow trade dollars to stay here in South East Texas.
In Hardin County, there is the drive to become a leader in CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). Currently most of the CNG that Europe uses comes from Russia. With the investment to modernize the Port of Orange it will allow us to gain a greater portion of the export market to supply our Allies, making them even less dependent on those that would be our enemies.
A South East Texas investment in our roads and railroad infrastructure will support the new demand, and spur a growing economy. This would bring jobs in the way of road construction, rail line repair, warehouses and terminals and a host of other transportation support services including opportunities that support small business growth.
Not all of our communities are supported with reliable high speed internet. In most parts satellite and dial up are the only alternatives available. If high speed internet is not invested in and made available, it will only serve as a deterrent to new business investment. An upgraded system is a requirement for a successful innovative future for our communities.
With proper planning and hard work, our District will result in a higher demand for rental/retail property, for goods and services that would result in a ripple effect eliminating the near double-digit unemployment we now have in our communities. We would create a less stressed tax base to fund the municipalities, schools and community services every American should expect to have.
South East Texas has the Spirit that Won the Battle of Texas Independence. We have what it takes to mark a new page in history with investment and an expansion of industry that would rival that of the old boom days of Spindletop.
